Having issues with my dome light and alarm in my '98 Mustang GT. It's been sitting for several years, but after a state trooper smashed into my wife's car it is now my daily driver until it gets fixed lol.

Anyways, I got a new battery and it started right up. After a day or so my dome light just randomly turned on and wouldn't shut off. After messing with the ground wire going to the battery it shut off for awhile but then turned back on. Yes the headlight is turned so the light shouldn't be on and there is no door chime. I tried wd40 on the door jambs, didn't help. I have now replaced the door jamb switches, and replaced the ground wire on the battery going down underneath the car. Still hasn't fixed the issue and I'm at a loss of what to do next.

This issue also seems to be causing an alarm issue. My car started alarming at 2 am. It was the first night I left it sitting in my driveway and I really thought someone was trying to steal it. I ran out in my boxers with my sig lol. Didn't see anyone, but then a couple days later it started alarming again randomly in my driveway in the middle of the day and I was outside and there was nobody around. So now I just keep nothing in the car and leave it unlocked. Anybody else have something similar happen and have a fix?

alarms hate it when batteries are being drained. They will hit a threshold voltage where they will start alarming for no reason. Is the battery still being drained, is it starting slow even after being replaced? If so we need to find the drain and fix it.

What does the remote for the alarm look like?

Where was the car hit?
Sorry, post was a little confusing. My wife's Mercedes got hit. So she is driving my everyday car until hers gets fixed and I am now driving the Mustang which hasn't been used in a couple years or more.

Seems to start normal. It's always taken about a second. I removed the dome light as well so it wouldn't drain the battery. Not sure what else to do.

looks like the stock alarm. Look on the drivers side behind the trunk panels for the keyless module and see if you can just disconnect it for now and fix the problem. After that you can either source a new/old factory keyless or they are not hard for any car audio place to install probably for less

So you say there’s no door ajar chime? When my 94 was about 9yo, the mirror lights would come on randomly (car is a convertible, so this is the only interior lighting it has.) Eventually it would stay on so long that the bulbs would melt the silver off the mirror, and I would burn myself if I touched it!

I ended up just removing the bulbs and replaced them with LED, until a few years later, the drivers side door ajar chime went off. I changed the sensor and both problems fixed themselves. So while I don’t believe I had a problem with my aftermarket security alarm, there definitely was something wrong with the door ajar sensor. It just had to get worse before it became more obvious.
