Just got under my car for the first time since buying it the other day and I don't think the people that rebuilt the motor before I owned the car painted the block! I can't believe it, wondering how long it will last if I don't pull it out and paint it.

Lmao, are you expecting a big ol cast iron block to rust through? Your rear end wasn't painted either lol.

Idk about your rear ends history, but my rear end had been bare since at least 2002. I did POR15 it 2 years ago though.

Just spray the engine block with a Teflon penetrant coating. You MIGHT have a little smoke from burn off around the exhaust manifold but that will stop after a few minutes. Just go out for a 15 minute ride, that should burn off the overspray and also blow the smell away. It will change the color of the rust to gray. The rear axle, driveshaft, and all of the suspension control arms are stamped steel with a light anti-rust coating from the factory.
