Engine interchange

Looking at a '98 with a bad engine. Will any other engines bolt in a work with out changing exhaust, electronics etc? Or, must it be a '98 specific engine? What about Crown Vic engines? Or, truck engines for that matter?

Assuming the 98 is a gt v8 model, look to a remanufacturered engine of the same year or 2004-up 2v from vics, lincolns, mercs, or Eseries van.
