95 GT - Auto - 55K Miles - Prem Fuel - I had previously run codes some time back and got EGR. Dealer said EGR OK. Ran codes again got a bunch of confusing numbers. I was determined to figure this out. Following instructions I cleared all codes. After a short over the road trip and a check engine light, ran codes again and clearly got an oxygen sensor Lean code on both sides. Replaced both with Ford Part. So Far so good. On a hot day when ping has been bad in the past - could not detect any. Hopefully I will be able to bump the timing back up 2 or 3 degrees and make the car run better.

Thanks for the advise. I did not know that the OS degrades and in many cases should be replaced after 30K miles. As far as the ping. On an Auto I don't believe you can ever eliminate it 100%. Gearing is such that shift points are so low on RPM. Manually shifting does help. I also changed from the 3.25 rear to the 3.73 which also helped. It has been a really good car. Some things you junt have to live with.

Thanks again for the advise. I realized with this sites advise that my oxygen sensors were a problem and needed to be replaced. :thumb:

Hmmm I might have the same problem...I have 140K miles & the original O2 sensors! How much did they cost? Thanks.

I got mine at rockauto.com - Ford Part - $59.00 - Has Helped but not completely gone. Like I have said - with this engine - don't think you can ever get rid of ping completely - particulary in hot weather.
