Gauge cluster wiring

I recently bought a 95 Cobra convertible and I'm trying to sort out some electrical problems: no interior lights, clock, radio, power mirrors, door locks and the door unlock button turning on the instrument lights. The headlight switch connector, which looks like it's been replaced once already, is melted and I'm working on replacing it. Hopefully that will fix at least some of the problems. But I'm stumped on this thing, a yellow wire coming out of the left side gauge cluster connector. I don't know if this is part of the factory wiring or something a previous owner did. The other end was wrapped around one blade of a fuse in the inside fuse box. I know that's not factory. Does anyone know if this part of factory wiring and if so where it's supposed to be going? Any help greatly appreciated.

Looks like someone went in there and repurposed the circuit originally controlling the Fuel Anti-Slosh module on the back of the cluster for something else. It may be that someone put a gauge cluster from a different model/year which would've required a re-pinning of the harness and maybe that's why there's all these electrical gremlins in the car.

I appreciate the input, if I'm reading you right it sounds like you're both saying the yellow wire is not part of factory wiring and I should cut away the electrical tape around it to see what it's connected to.As to the possibility that this may be a non stock cluster, the label and molded in part number seem to suggest it's a genuine ford part with an appropriate production date to be original to the car. There are markings on it like I've seen on boneyard parts, but for all I know they could also be factory QC inspection markings. You guys probably know more about that than me. Thanks again, I'll look into where that wire goes and let you know.

Yeah that definitely came from a boneyard somewhere for some reason.
Pull off that tape and let's see what's going on there. Is there an aftermarket tach?

it may or may not be, looks to be yellow with a white indicator which would be hard to find out in the world.

No, that Y/W wire is definitely original, keep it in place. Whatever the previous folk did to the other end of that connection is the real question. I'm guessing right now you don't have a working fuel gauge, but it seems that's the least of your problems right now.

Carved away the tape and found that the yellow/white wire is spliced to the green/yellow wire of the harness which goes to pin four of the connector, labeled simply '+12V'. Tracing it's path on the printed circuit on the back of the cluster it goes to the alarm system indicator light, and since there's no alarm module in the car I think for now I'll just leave it disconnected and move on to the next problem. Which is replacing the headlight switch connector. Once again, thanks for everyone's input and especially cobrajeff for the gauge cluster wiring diagram.

ok that is strange. Take a run through your fuse boxes and make sure all the fuses are still good both under the hood and the dash.
