what do you guys use? the factory recommeds 80W-90 i think right? i wanna change mine again with full synthetic but i can only find quaker state 75W-140 full syn at the local parts store. the other synthetics that they have in 80W 90 are store brand names that i dont want. will the quaker state 75W 140 be ok or do i have to go somewhere else and find an 80W-90??
I know lots of people use ATF. Almost everyone I talked to says "dont use gear oil its crap for our trannys, use ATF!!!!" To awnser your question its syntetic 75W-90. Royal Purple is supposed to be great and you dont need to add friction modifier, some you do, it should say on the bottle. I did a search on the ATF vs Gear oil and found this: http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=558060&highlight=gear+oil 32 to 4 say use ATF.
sorry matt, i guess i didnt specify that the gear oil was for the rear end, not the tranny. i put lucas in my rear end and ive heard too many bad things about lucas so i wanna change it for a different oil. i have the friction modifier already , just need oil.
lol damn I was tired and must not of been thinking clearly I jumped back and forth between trans and rear end fluid...wow. I knew what you meant I just wasnt thinking clearly. I did give you the awnser to confirm you want To awnser your question its syntetic 75W-90. Most people run SAE 80 or 90....90 if its a bit noisy or you really giver in the stang all over.
