my uncle used to have an old International pickup that had like 4:86's or 5:38's. That thing was so slow it would have taken it a week to die a sudden death. 8)
I'm sure those gears would be great in a Mustang for the 1/4 mile though.

My friend has 4:10's in a Camaro and he says they are to low...Beats me what to get. :dunno:

When I was racing my 68GT I had 4:86's in it. It was to much gear. I would run out of engine just before the speedtraps. But my 60 foot times were friggin awsome.

I'm leaning toward 3:73's with what everyone is telling me. I talked to a guy the other day that has a 68 GT with a 5 speed, 3:73 gears and a crate engine pushing about 500 hp, he says he can pull 135mph in 4th with 5th gear left. I dont know, but thats what he told me. :dunno:

I have 4.10s and love them. It's the gear Ford should have put in these cars. My gas mileage increased when I went from 3.27s to 4.10s.

+1

I have driven Mustangs for 20 years and have never, not even once, tried to figure what kind of mileage I got....

I have a '97 Cobra with a '97 block, 9.8 compression, Eaton w/ 2.9 pulley, full exhaust, and 4.10's. Dyno'd 462hp and over 500tq going to 315 BFG drag radials through those gears= big time fun!

If you aren't going with forced induction anytime soon- my vote would be to go with 4.10's. I have never heard anone n/a with 4.10's wishing they had gone with 3.90's or 3.73's. But I have heard, and have also said myself, people say they wished they had gone with a steeper gear.

So if I go with 4:10's what will I need to order to recalibrate my speedo? Does it come in the gearing kit?

Anything over 3:73's you need a speedcal.

I bought 3:90's for my '95(just go to the Motive website) i didn't look at gas mileage when i decided, i was thinking about where my power curve was atm and where i started to drop off... i'll get a good jump, and the 3:90's will keep me in the perfect RPM through the 1/4 ;10, 4mile. i don't care much for anything past 1320. but thats just me, and i've got the 5.0. most everyone i know running around with a mod car has either 4:10, 4:30 or 4:56. i've got a buddy with H/C/I '04 GT with 3:73's and he swears by then, then i've got a friend with a Nitrous '97 Cobra running around with 4:56's and he swears by them. so you need to figure out what you need, and why. THEN decide on the gearing.

I definately got more than I bargained for on this question. This is like talking politics and religion...everyone has an opinion.
Has got me thinking thats for sure. I was leaning toward 3:73's, now I'm leaning toward 4:10's.
I dont think I could go wrong with any of the gears mentioned, they all have an advantage over what I'm running now.
