well i am in the process of trading my 95 5.0 for a 97 4.6 and i was just wondering if there is anything special that i need to know about these 4.6s? Its got a cat-back, short throw, 4.10s and a cai.. I know this isn't going to run like my 5.0 but what other small bolt-ons or tricks to get alil more ponies out of this? Im not looking for anything that will go 12s at the track. I just want something that will have alil power for on the streets. Thanks for the input.

Pi headswap it you don't plan on supercharging it. And if you don't want to get into the whole head swap thing you can do the intake for a nice little gain and mabe even some cams. O0

You can supercharge a stock 4.6 Stang. All you need is the whole kit. I would wait and forge my lower end. The rods on the 4.6 are crap.

do you have to do alot of supporting mods on these motors to charge them?

Nope... not unless you are planning on going over 400hp.

In a nut shell, the 281 block is much stronger than a pushrod.

NPI heads (stock) are anemic and don't flow well at all, there's options to swap the IM, Cams, or the whole head/cam intake to the 99 and up version. That's the PI headswap.

The rods are cast, but they can get you into the 400 HP range.

there's a number of options avaliable, and of course a blower is good as well.
It depends on what you want to do, on what I'd recommend. how much powa, and $ you have avaliable.

its already got the bolt-ons that i have on my 5.0 except for under drives.. Do these help the 4.6 as much as the 5.0?

I am planing on making a street/car show car that looks good and has some power to back it up and something to cruise in on nice days and not have any issues with it.

nope, you've nailed them.

your next step would be the PI stuff, and/of blower.
the rest is a waste of money IMO.

you could spray it.

Oh, and despite what some say you can SC it after the PI headswap...Just dont get crazy with the boost and get a great tune.

low 300's with the blower.

if you want more you'll need the headswap, all or part.

I was looking around and found a good deal on heads and an intake off of a 2001 GT.. Would these be the PI heads everyone is talking about?

Get a cheap used Vortech for around 1200 to 1500 as suggested for a low 300 rwhp number on the stock kit.

Swap the intake and port the heads, or swap them for PI ported with blower cams for in excess of 400 rwhp. Otherwise, motorwise, everything else is unfortunately, a waste.

You can get a set of Steen racing ported NPI heads for 700, swap some good cams in them, and the PI intake, along with a Vortech and you have an easy 360 to 400 rwhp car for an investment of about 2500 bucks.
