Well I was driving yesterday and my car backfired under hard acceleration. It was followed by some black smoke, which i presume was unburned fuel, and then it died. I tried to start it but it didnt want to start. So I look at the distributor and one screw that holds the lower plastic piece on was loose. I tightened it up and the car fired right up. I went to pull away and the car fell on its face and shut off again. I checked the distributor again and this time the placement pin on the rotor broke and it was just sitting there not turning. So I got a new rotor and the car turns over but doesnt not fire. I have no clue whats going on. I dont know if the backfire messed something up or when the rotor broke the plastic piece wiped out the pickup in the distributor. Any thoughts or ideas would be a great help...Thanks Will

I would suggent testing everything on the distributor. get a test light and see if that coil is throwing any spark. just try anything.
