I'm aware of other brands like Mobil 1 and Royal Purple (among my faves) but where I am right now, I only have these choices and was hoping to get some feedback on which you might think is a better choice for me: All are 5W30. It's not for racing. Just everyday spirited driving. 1. D-Ester (actual name of the engine oil) 2. Liqui Moly TopTec 3. Castrol Edge These are the ones I can choose from. Please give feedback, anything from company reputation, contents of the oil, price per bottle (1L), advantages/disadvantages, etc. Like I said, I used to use Mobil 1 all the time and it was great. For a cheaper more basic oil I used to use Quaker State. At this time, D-Ester, Liqui Moly TopTec and Castrol Edge are all I can choose from. (There was also Venol Synthetic and Ardeca, but those I think are mainly for diesel engines).
The prices seemed really high (like $20+ per 1L bottle!). I ended up ordering online 4 x 1L of Mobil 1 for $8 each.
Are you wanting to go full synthetic or dino oil? I've ran Castrol conventional oil in my all my cars for years. Couldn't be happier. All 3 of my cars have over 200,000 miles. Last year I switched over to Castrol SynBlend in the mustang. Happy with this too. It seem that the oil leak from the rear main seems to have slowed.
I use Castrol GTX I think. No synthetic for me. Car runs nicely, i'm happy. Used to use a K&N oil filter, last oil change I opted for a motorcraft one. No reason to spend $15-$20 on the same filter, instead of $5
The K&N filters are overpriced for the name. the motorcraft ones are ok. most stores say the Purolator pureone is a pretty solid choice.
They're old pushrod motors, not 32v QOHC race derived motors or anything. Just some regular edge or GTX is fine, I run Mobil 1 or Edge in mine, and the only reason I even run synthetic is because I beat the @*R& out of it.
