Your statement about aero is retarded. I'd like you to drive down the road with your hand out of the window and feel the forces with your hand at a downward angle. Now multiply that force times 100 for sq ft area of a wing. THATS why autox guys use such huge aero because they don't use a lot of speed (under 100mph). Btw to each their own, not everyone can go full mod or don't want to.

well now I would agree, and yet have to point out that a spoiler with 100 square feet of surface area is one big-assed spoiler!

Should I stick my hand out the window at 35 mph? How fast does the dd who autocross on the weekend get going? I've only seen two autoX events and they'd drive like 30 yds before they'd have to slam on the brakes and make a turn.

With an aftermarket hood there is no way I wouldn't have hood pins. I've seen WAY too many aftermarket hoods fly up.

I had a hood come up on my old Ranger doing 75 down the freeway...it caused a lot of damage. The hood ripped away from the latch. On my cowl hood on the Mustang I have the factory latch and the hood pins too...that SOB is not coming up...

Dang that stinks. I'm going on 20 years and over 300k mi with the same stock hood with the original hood latch without issue. Maybe I'm just lucky...

Why do I use hood pins with a stock hood?

Long ago I had an aftermarket hood. Didn't latch correctly. Tried adjusting it many times but no dice. The last straw was when it unlatched on the highway at 65mph but luckily the hook end held onto the hood and didn't allow it to fly up. I added the pins and removed the latch forever. Skip forward 8 years and now I was deep into open track events so the big cowl hood was now a sight interference. I went back to a stock hood which was preferred for it's low profile that was modified for clearance and heat extraction. And once again, using the pins. For me, having two points of contact to secure the hood vs one works best for what I do with the car.

At times, I wish I had built a 302 based engine for this very reason. Stupid 351w and the concessions that must be made. While I don't have a compete über-hood, it does get in the way:

Shoot even with the 302's you kinda have to be careful when choosing intakes with the 94/95's. Dang you ford, why couldn't they have given a little more hood clearance w the GT's!? And if a guy has to use a spacer for one reason or another (valve cover clearance etc) it's even worse.
"I just did an h/c/i upgrade and now I have to buy a new hood and have it painted." Thanks Ford

Mine hits my wipers.. What's the remedy for that?

Mine doesn't come back far enough to have that issues, yours must be one that comes all the way back to the windshield?

Mine comes back too far to clear the wipers too. I just keep the wipers on the floor behind the seat and put them on if I need to... Not ideal, but it works.

NOT THE GREatest picture (sorry for yelling) but this is how far back it comes:

Plenty of autocross courses get up around 80 mph, more if you have a car with more balls...

Personally, I put hood pins on mine with the stock latch still "functioning"... When you see the hood wobbling up and down when going 65mph it's worth the peace of mind. Plus my car isn't worth anything so I'd rather put money into something functional that doesn't look bad vs replacing a windshield.
