I'm new to the late model Mustang scene and I'm trying to quickly bring myself up to a reasonable level of knowledge concerning these cars. My question is this (and please forgive me if I make a totally ignorant statement): I believe the Mustang GTs from 96 to 98 had lower horsepower ratings than those that were built from 99 to the new model. Assuming that is correct, what did Ford do differently to increase the horsepower levels? Anyone know? Yleefox
They added heads with smaller combustion chambers, bigger valves and a better flowing intake a higher lift cams.
actually the 96-98 had 9.5:1 cr where the 99 up had like 9.1 or a strait 9.0:1 Cr, the pistons were dished a lot more on the 99 up. But yea, Heads cams and intake, make the difference between 215/225 and 260 hp.
