Did he find out what the noise was?

It will make a difference if it's a thrown rod or a exhaust leak.

Its gonna be a hit or miss... Try to get more detail of what noise or where specifically it was coming from.

A guy down the street from me got a 98 cobra motor that worked just fine for $700-800. Can't remember exactly.

I wouldn't pay more than $500 for that if you're gonna rebuild it and you don't exactly know what's wrong with it.

500 tops.... I'd say 350 since your shooting into unknown territory.

I've seen far too many people who "know the guy" and still get burned man. Like these guys have all said you're charging into uncharted waters. I wouldn't pay a dime more than $500. Mod motors aren't exactly cheap to rebuild. Especially 4v's

I just saw a complete running Navigator 4V on local craigs for $1000. This was a complete motor with pulleys, brackets, and electronics as well.

Im not spending a dime on any used engine I want running unless I heard it run and was able to rev it up. Idc what warranty the person claims unless its a big business.

It ultimately comes down to how much you are willing to pay for it knowing it could need rebuilt.
