how much should i pay?

my buddy has a 96-98 cobra motor for sale. it has less than 100,000 miles and was running when pulled but it hada noise at the bottem end he was worried it was going to hurt the motor so he pulled it. how much is it worth?

Did he find out what the noise was?

It will make a difference if it's a thrown rod or a exhaust leak.

A guy down the street from me got a 98 cobra motor that worked just fine for $700-800. Can't remember exactly.

I wouldn't pay more than $500 for that if you're gonna rebuild it and you don't exactly know what's wrong with it.

I've seen far too many people who "know the guy" and still get burned man. Like these guys have all said you're charging into uncharted waters. I wouldn't pay a dime more than $500. Mod motors aren't exactly cheap to rebuild. Especially 4v's

haha yea i want to stay friends. iv had deals with him in the past were he bought stuff from me and i bought stuff from him so it wouldnt be the first time

Lol at 350 for a cobra engine are we talking intake manifold to pan or long block ?

I just saw a complete running Navigator 4V on local craigs for $1000. This was a complete motor with pulleys, brackets, and electronics as well.

Im not spending a dime on any used engine I want running unless I heard it run and was able to rev it up. Idc what warranty the person claims unless its a big business.

It ultimately comes down to how much you are willing to pay for it knowing it could need rebuilt.
