How not to take care of your AODE

    Never change the atf, don't ever check its level, and forget about changing the filter. Make sure you dont do this every year and you'll have no clutches in no time. Neutral dropping it also helps it not last longer.

    Anyone know what ATF does to a T5 or any other manual trans?

    atf is used in the t5

    You don't use gear oil in it?

    nope.......rule of thumb is if it has an aluminum case use atf.....if its cast iron/steel use gear oil

    hey 94gtstang50- u confused the shit out of me on the last one :dunno: so neutral dropping it bad or not??? i do it all the time to either rev on people or to cruise down a hill. ;D

    Do you rev it up and while its at like 2-4k rpms drop it into gear?

    oh no i dont do that .i rev it up and when it comes down a drop it into drive.

    Thanks, I just need to get her looking good so I can start on the performance stuff. My plan is for her to be all stock on the outside, except for wheels, and maybe clear corners, and make her a performance beast.

    Seems to me that gear oil was used up through like what, '83? With the advent of the WC T5, Mercon was spec'd.

    My '86 Turbo T-bird was the first car I had to spec ATF in the gearbox.
