Hi

I have just purchased a brand new DOHC engine (with T56) here in the UK. The problem i have is, how do identify the year of manufacture?. Having read the through the forum, i have noticed differences in the internals and heads between certain years.

The only visible marking i can see is the SVT tag on the rocker cover, and a barcode sticker on the other! Is there any other visible signs that would help?

Many thanks

Kevin

Take a picture of the SVT tag on the valve cover. That should tell us all we need to know.

It's probably an 03 or 04 if the tranny is the engines mate. There might also be some casting numbers on the side of the block. I have a 2001 and a 2003 block that I could compare them to, who knows, maybe one will match up.

All the DOHC valve covers are the same, the coil covers is what's different between the 96-98 and 99-04 DOHC engines due to incorporating coil packs in the 99-04 models.

yes chris. 96-98 use the waste spark system with the two coils and spark plug wires.

99-01 and 03-/04 use COP system i believe

**EDIT

The valve covers themselves are slightly different on the 99-04's. They are not interchangeable.

That's a 99/01 cobra motor. 320 hp.

As Duff Daddy said, diamonds make it a "Windsor Aluminum Plant" block (WAP) -- found in only 2001's. However some '01s got teksid blocks (square hatching). All '99s were teksid blocks.

Coil pack covers. Though, come to think of it, those covers also came on the '00 Cobra R. And with that T-56... Don't even tell me you bought a Cobra R motor!!

Yes you're right, but they look physically almost the same. On a side note, I'm an idiot, all 99-04 Cobra's had those coil pack covers. It's probably a Termi motor. Where's the supercharger?

Is the port on the crossover to the left or the right of the alternator? I can't tell. Termi's were on the left.

Good call, that looked like a tarp or something to me on top of the motor.
