How to tell what gearbox I have

Hi all still trying to figure out if I'm posting in the correct area.
Hi wcan I tell what gearbox I have in my 2001 ford mustang GT?
The door tag has a 6 on it meaning that the box is a T45 but the T45 has a 10.5" clutch but the previous owner has told me he had fitted a 11" clutch but that clutch fits a TR3650 box. So is there a stamp on the box somewhere or is there a way to tell which one I have just by looking at the gearbox?

Has some good info that you are asking. Check the drain plug apparently.

Thats a 3650 with the drain plug on the bottom.

So I have a early 2001 mustang with a door tag/lable saying it should a a T45 box but it actually has a T3650 box

Just out of curiousity what does the trans mount look like and which motor do you have romeo or windsor? Its possible the trans could have been swapped at some point.

I will get under the car again tomorrow and take a photo of the mount cause I'm not to sure what you mean
The engine is a 4.6 SOHC how can I tell if its a Windsor or romeo?
I will post a photo of the engine

The trans mounts are different between the two but its not a big deal. Also count the valve cover bolts if its 11 on each head its a romeo, if its 13 on one side and 14 on the other its a windsor. Though it looks like its a romeo from the pink top injectors. With it being a romeo its most likely a tr3650.

OK i have 11 valve cover bolts on each side so I have a Romeo engine and a T3650 gearbox with the gearbox sump plug at the bottom. Is this correct?
If so why do I have a X as an 8th digit on my VIN number?

That is correct. I dont know where people still get that from, x doesnt mean windsor thats an old internet myth. My 02 gt has that as well and also has a romeo motor and tr3650.

Cheers everyone one for your help. Now I know what engine and gearbox I have I can get the clutch kit on order and see if I can find out what the hell this marbles in a tin sound rattling is which starts at 2000rpm

IIRC the X on the vin means 4.6 SOHC, either Romeo or Windsor. The other letter (V?) is for the DOHC Cobra motors.
