Couldn’t tell the difference between a dirt road and pine needles one night and had a rather unfortunate accident, in the middle of nowhere, with no cellular coverage. Other than cosmetic damage, something went wrong with the ebrake, rendering the convertible motor inoperable. I have since then corrected this miraculously (engaging the brake all the way fully seemed to do the trick), but the one thing that remains is its struggle with wanting to wake up and be an actual car.
If you start it up, it will immediately backfire several times (which you can hear in the video). The RPMs will then drop to almost nothing until you manually accelerate a little. If you let off, it will try to die again, until you press the pedal a little once more. It will do this about 2-4 times until it finally remembers its a car and behaves normally. I have driven it nonstop for 121 miles (2+ hours) without it giving me any trouble. It remains a great dependable car, but still behaves this way on cold start up. There are no CELs, no codes (I checked just in case). If you park it, it will start up normally because it hasn’t yet gone full cold.
Car was resting on aftermarket subframe connectors, and as I was jacking it up, I noticed it was also resting on the cats and exhaust. Both O2 sensors appear to look fine. It doesn’t look like anything caught or dragged, but mostly, the weight was on the front frame.
Any ideas?
