I recently switched my flowmasters out to some Borla Pro XS mufflers. I did some before and after testing with a dB meter and it was a 3-5 db reduction at idle inside and out with the Borlas. Definitely quieter but loud when you stand on the fun pedal.
I have a high-flow catted pipe (Bassani catted X-pipe) on my car, and TBH there was not a huge reduction in sound with the high flow cats. If they reduce anything, it certainly wasn't much. The stock H-pipe will certainly quiet it down more. When i had my old 2003 GT i ran the stock mid-pipe with flowmasters and it was loud, but I could upshift sooner and get it pretty quiet if needed. I was daily driving that car so i wanted something I could put other people in and not have them complain that much.
What I think will help a lot is going from dumps to tailpipes. The turndowns direct the exhaust pulses at the ground which bounce back up into the vehicle right in the rear trunk area/gas tank area which amplifies it a lot. Having tailpipes direct the pulses backwards will make a noticeable difference in volume in the interior. I briefly ran dumps on my car, disliked how loud it was in the interior, and put my tailpipes back on a week later.
I find as i get older, my desire for a quieter (yet faster) car grows more and more.
