Ignition cylinder slop

I feel like this issue has been beat to death, but I want to ask anyway. I’m on my second ignition cylinder and it’s starting to get that “slop” wherein it comes out before the OFF position, or the door dings when the key is not in, or when it is in it dings in the wrong position, etc etc. Is 2 years the normal life expectancy of replacement ignition cylinders (ie, planned obsolescence)? Are OE Motorcraft ignition cylinders ($90) far superior than Dorman and comparable from auto parts stores and worth the 3x cost?

Looking for a consistent, reliable mechanism that works as it should and lasts. Thanks everyone!

I bet it is something simple that if you took it to a locksmith that they could fix it in 10 mins but yea the design seems like it doesn't last all that long for what ever the reason is.

My lock cylinder works just fine after two years, LMR replacement set, included the door cylinders as well.

Best advice I can give is try not to have a hefty keychain.

I’m thinking of the same set from LMR, but hoping to get some replies from people that went with the Motorcraft so I can compare

Thx, Terrorist. Think I’ll go with the same ignition & door set from LMR as well… AND get a detachable keychain. I don’t carry a lot of keys, but if lightening the load helps, it’s worth the few bucks. Cheers!

it will take some time to replace all of them. Door panels will need to come off and the trunk latch isn't hard to do, just uncomfortable to wokron upside down

You won’t regret it, trunk and glove box didn’t come when I bought my kit, but the doors and ignition cylinder are really easy. Easier than people make them out to be. Good luck!
