Anybody replace the ignition actuator on a 94-95 5.0? I’ve Googled and YouTube’d and closest I came was the LMR tutorial (up to ‘93; very different) and I found a 1Aauto.com tutorial but it was for a V6 (so, maybe?).

I have the covers off, ignition lock cylinder out and column lowered to the bottom of the bolts for wiggle room. I just don’t see anything remotely related in the ‘93 video past that point to show me how to R&R the damn thing, let alone even LOCATE it inside the column.

Any links, help, suggestions or sharing of past experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!IMG_4035.png

I did check it out since posting, along with one for a Ford Ranger which looks the same or really close to mine, so I think I can make due with those 2.

Now, the obvious next question: any “heads-up “, tricks, suggestions, hints, insights etc to getting this done, or just follow the vids?

Dude, too easy.

Insert the key and put it in the run/acc position. Look directly beneath the cylinder (whether or not the painted lower shroud is still attached) and you will see a sort of captive ball bearing. Push on it with a long, thin tool like a blunt punch while pulling out on the key shroud. It'll just slip right out.

If the plastic shroud is still screwed onto the column, just look for the hole right beneath the cylinder that is slightly larger in diameter compared to the screw holes securing the shroud to the column.

This is one of the few parts I have not yet replaced or even looked at. Yea a cylinder could not be easier don't we wish all our repairs were that easy?

Are you leaving the key in at the acc/run position? If so, it should just slide back in the column.

Yea I'm pretty sure you'd want to leave the key in the same position it was in just before you removed the cylinder.

keep the key in and as he said it should just slide in as though you are just inserting the key and then turn it and pull the key out.

Yes, I know all that, but the issue is that I’ve already taken the key out in the OFF position while the lock cylinder was not inside the steering column

is it all still in one piece or did it come apart? I know if you twist the key the wrong way it starts the disassembly and you end up with about 4-5 pieces in your hand and if ya don't know locks, well I could not figure out how to put it back together. I was lucky that I did it on accident right in front of my locksmith and he was able to put it all back together in 5 secs but it looked like an interesting puzzle to me....
