This is driving me crazy and am in need some input.
Got a 95 5.0 SVT and was driving absolutely incredible and was maintained like it was made of gold but suddenly got intermittent misfires at 3k-3.5k rpm and won’t pop any fault codes.
Has no OBD2 and OBD1 ain’t any help.
It felt like a spark issue so I changed the ignition module, plugs, wires, coil, distributor cap, and distributor rotor with no change.
Fuel pressure was fine but just in case I changed it for a bigger fuel pump mostly because I wanted a bigger one anyways but had no effect.
Read up on identifix and found MAS sensor and TPS sensor with no change either.
Vacuum is good so I mostly wrote that off my list and I can’t think of anything else that would cause such a specific issue so if any folks here have hopefully had this issue and managed to fix it off themselves it would be a huge help.
Thank you thank you

Check your coil all wires secure
Spark plug wires not cut grounding out on engine parts
Plugs themselves the condition
Cap rotor condition
Pip condition
And the TFI on passenger fender
TFI may be on distributor
These are some of the things to look at

If you know someone with a star tester at Ford
They could run a wiggle test on the wire harness
On EEC

Unfortunately all that had been done but the star tester. I had just purchased a nice budget breaking distributor that hopefully gets me back up and rolling but I’ll run off to my buddy at ford and ask if he could run me some tests. I’m hoping it’s just a pip that’s giving me some poor feedback but as yall would know all that I’ve already changed are common issues with these machines so I was pushing back a distributor hoping to save me some meat.

You put a fuel pump in, how about the fuel filter?

I hadn’t in about 10k miles however my fuel pressure is more than plenty so I had no reason to believe that was the issue. Especially because after 3.5k rpm the issue dissolves.

Here is something to try
Wiggle the wire harness around the distributor
And coil while running engine
See if any difference

Also on the TfI
I had just put a brand new one in not three days ago so I doubt that would change anything and as for the distributor I’ll be swapping it out soon here so if that ends up fixing it I’ll be sure to say.

Keep in mind a brand new out of the box , can be a pain in the ass
i had 4 at AutoZone fail out the box they would test them in front of me
there was a big time issue with all the new ones at AutoZone Oriley's pep boys
they get hot for some reason and cut out
make sure you coat the back of that TFI good to heat sink it

Alright I got a conclusion for yall. My issue ended up being the distributor bearings. I couldn’t tell when it was in the engine because of was held down to the camshaft but after taking it out it was obvious where my problem was. I’ve tried sending the video but the form won’t allow me to. So if any folk in the future see this issue take out the distributor and see if there’s any play in the shaft. Thank yall for your help.

Glad you found it. You have to load the video to you tube and then link it here.

Oh crap. Yeah, I’d say that’s a problem. Now I’d like to see where the bearing went after they failed.

Well unfortunately I don’t have a photo but fortunately I can confirm the most of it was still in there. Can’t say my cam is going to be the most pretty when I pull it out but at least there ain’t a full set of bearings having a tea party in my block.
