I’m checking out this at CarMax

2018 Ford F150 XL

$27,998*60K miles.

Running Boards, Parking Sensors, Rear View Camera, Turbo charged engine, Bluetooth Technology, RWD

It was a one person Lease here in CA (Sacramento) and has the 2.7L turbo engine.

Is this a good year? Motor? Price? Deal??

I'm assuming this is the one?

Good truck, proven reliable with proper maintenance. Price is about average based on what I've seen online.

Throw a STX grille at it, lower it a little, find the right wheels and enjoy!

edit: Hell, if that is the truck, it already has the STX grille. Just get the surround paint matched. Another thing about those trucks, they're modular built meaning if you see something in a higher trim package truck that you like, you can add it to the truck you have with minimal [in most cases] effort.

I’m constantly amazed at the price of modern trucks. $30k for a 6 year old low trim level truck is wild to me but I guess that’s what they are going for.

Maybe I’m just too poor for new trucks lol.

Good, useful feedback everyone. Thanks! I definitely want to know the good, the bad and the ugly so I have an inclination what I’m getting into.

I (do) recall hearing the 3.5 V6 is better than the 2.7. Fact or mere personal opinion?

I think 2019+ have updated phasers. Swapping to the newer model phasers fixes the issue in the older trucks. You just gotta know a guy who will do it on the side because it’s not too much work but Ford will eat you alive on it.

At least on 3.5L, again I got no knowledge on the 2.7L but imagine it’s a lot of the same.

I had a 2020 F150 with the coyote for a bit. It was a good truck but the transmission is trash. I’ve read on mustang6g that you can turn off the adaptive learning and it shifts like it should. The explorers we use at work with the 10 speed are just as bad but I digress. I like the simplicity of the n/a v8 but the one issue I have with the coyote is that it’s a high revving motor, low end torque isn’t the best. Ford really needs to add a pushrod v8 to its F150 lineup.

With all that said they’re good trucks with a comfortable ride and nice interior. I’d buy one again if I had the money.

FWIW, I’m not disappointed. I was willing to pony-up and get a 4-door truck for the (now) 2 grandkids, but the wife has a Jeep Grand Cherokee, a 4-door, and I would’ve HATED to get rid of a Ram Regular Cab 5.7 Hemi. Truck has 192k on the odometer and runs like a top. Frickin’ love my truck!
