I would suspect a broad coil pack on #4 cylinder
Could it only affect one cylinder? I always thought the whole pack would go bad but I guess they could be individual.

How do you like the KB? Thinking of putting one on my 96.
I love it, but I've heard it's not the best for track days. Once sorted I'll give her a go at the local drag strip, followed by a local autocross, and then eventually Road Atlanta or something similar. I'm guessing I'll be ready for the strip in the Spring.

It's soooo much fun on the street with the low end torque. With what I've seen so far, and it's premature since I've only been able to blip the throttle on some short runs, it's a beast...and ALL of the boost seems to come on instantaneous. With that said, its probably not the best for the road track or autocross without a full suspension and tire package as it might be hard to modulate and it's just a lot of torque. It feels like a literal light switch at the moment but that could be tuning or me just needing to get it on a track to figure the car out.

i am going to get rid of the smog tubes on mine egr and crap i dont need
install a smaller pully that should give a little more hp

Stock otherwise? I just want the low end torque for the street.

I created this thread as an investigation because I don't know what I bought. Lol I'm enjoying the process so far but won't truly know everything until I get it on the lift and eventually pull the engine and transmission apart. I'd prefer to do that much much much later and just enjoy the car for a while. With this much boost I'm hoping that the engine has been built up.

Plug wires installed tonight. Also found out that the pcv on driver's side routes to the passenger front foot well and dumps. There is also a long hose on the passenger side going to a valve that is routed to the intake filter. I'm not sure what that's about but I'm planning to replace those with oil catch cans.

New spark plugs, battery terminals and a lot of parts are arriving this week.

Are you going to fix the routing on those plug wires?

Installed the wire loom separators and investigated the PCV and vent hose connections further. The PCV hose routes all the way around the block to underneath the intake filter. There is a tube pointed right at the filter. The vent hose from the passenger side valve cover is routed and tucked into a hole under the intake as well. I bought a catch can for the PCV side and it should arrive this weekend. Again, no detailing to take place until I get everything checked out and sorted. I don't want to eliminate any clues if I'll need them. Also picking up a few vacuum line caps today; I had some that were dry rotted. I found the cap on the methanol tank had busted and split at the top. A previous owner had plastic plastic film underneath to help seal the tank. I tried to use a plastic bonder with no success so I took out the old solder iron with a flat tip and welded the crack closed. I'll take some measurements later and try to find a new cap, but the repair looks solid.

I was also able to save my current tune onto an SCT-X4. No plans to use the programmer at this time.

Did a little research on the build tag today and it looks like Dave Snyder and Paul W. (Warmsbaucher?) built the engine.

Well, this Sunday we're taking the car to golf and the plan is to park it and start tearing into the front suspension. The lower ball joints have seen better days and the shocks are shot all the way around. The plan is to tear it all down and replace bushings, joints and shocks where it's needed. I want a good road course suspension later on. Starting to research cleaning technique for the undercarriage. Might as well give it a scrub while I'm there.

Saw a Saleen at lunch this week and stopped at the garage to see if the owner was there. They were not but I snapped a quick pick. Changed out all of the plugs and dug into the front suspension tonight. The gaps on the back two cylinders were tighter which leads me to believe there may be a compression issue on those and the mechanic tried to compensate for some losses. No idea, just speculation at this point. Then again, someone may have just not gapped them at all. I set mine at 0.32 to start. There was a clunking in the driver front side braking forward and then backward. It sounded like a control arm bushing where it attaches to the vehicle but I would think a tie rod end or lower ball joint would wear sooner. I was almost convinced it was a lower ball joint because they both look horrendous... After jacking up the car I was unable to recreate the bang so I checked the control arm bushings at the body.... Wow, front side is completely shot so I found my issue.
