Just received the Mishimoto thermostat. It tested fine in the boiling water test. However, it comes with a built-in rubber gasket, which the one I’m replacing didn’t. It had the Permatex water neck and thermostat (blue) sealant.

So, since the Mishimoto has a gasket built-in do I still need the Permatex? Or just a thin layer on the diameter the gasket? Or just along the outside of the gaskets circumference?

I’m thinking a thin bead inside that top “channel” of the gasket would be good?
Thanks!

Ok, it’s been a while since I’ve replaced a thermostat. I don’t recall them coming with a rubber grommet around them. I’m an idiot! Took it off and viola, it fits perfectly.

So.... With head hung low and tail sheepishly between my legs, I hereby cancel this thread!’
