Went to a fancy restaurant, and saw this car:

I actually had a much crappier photo because I wasn’t supposed to be over there, but got permission after showing the crappy pic to a lady at the front desk. I loved the color, loved the design. I simply must know what type of car it was. She told me it was a Mustang. I’m thinking. “No. She must think I’m talking about the fox body next to it.” But she told me that it indeed was a mustang. Had I not been allowed to look from behind, I still would not have believed her.

She tried to dig up more info on the car claiming how rare it was. She didn’t say “concept” but mentioned that very few were made, and the guy who did the front end later worked on designing corvettes. I’m now thinking this is some 1963 concept that I had never seen before. The two seater concept mustang did have a front end like that, but not headlights like that. They were more aerodynamic, pop up. All she really could tell me that it was a Mustang ET. I had her confirm, so it’s not a typo. But yeah, no year, no nothing.

Seems like a very modern color to paint some über rare concept car from the 60s. Maybe it’s actually just a kit. Only thing I could find that was remotely close was this:

But really, it only slightly matches in the rear.

Very cool.

To me it seems like it's just a Mustang with a front clip swap. Maybe part of a kit to turn a fastback into a GT40 or something.

Not the same car, but I found one with a similar front end as one of the entries:

It finally dawned on me to look up “Daytona Mustang” since the front end looked similar to a Daytona. So not a concept, but a VERY rare mod, considering how difficult it would be for something like that to survive that long, and also, according to Hot Rod Magazine, only 50 of those front ends were made.

In a way, it’s very similar to my own front end in that it was popular back in the day to customize these, often replacing the front end with something fiberglass or urethane. And now that the cars aren’t as common, and certainly not modded, the likelihood of a mustang surviving several decades with such a front end is becoming more rare.

I’m on my third one, and ONLY because we were lucky to buy another in 2014 before the company (allegedly) sold its molds and got out of the mustang business. The classic 60s mustangs, however, only had 50 to go with, so once it’s done, it’s back to stock.

There we go:

E/T Mustang conversion

Another of Fiberfab's early products was the E/T Mustang conversion. This kit was designed by a moonlighting Larry Shinoda. The final product looked somewhat like the nose of the mid-engined Ford Mustang I prototype.

An estimated fifty E/T Mustang kits were produced by Fiberfab. One was installed on an original Shelby Mustang.

Similar kits were later produced by a company called VFN Fiberglass.

Mystery SOLVED!

So it looks like you can still buy these, but the story about it being an E/T Mustang, rare, and the guy who designed it later working on corvettes (which FiberFab did) checks out.
