Drove 50 miles and it rode fine after cleaning maf sensor earlier today fixing my surging idle and stalling
Got back in to drive 50 miles back home and got about 5 miles out popped into 3rd gear and it lurched bad out of nowhere almost like i hydroplaned and kept doing it until it was almost undrivable and was running terrible
Pulled over and it was running really weak like it was getting choked out and when i gave it gas it stuttered for a second and smelled really bad like gas and puffed out huge amounts of white gas smelling smoke i unplugged maf sensor and cut it off and crunk it back up it still ran a little choppy but i got a lot of throttle response back
So i tried to make it home and after about 5 miles when i tried to give it gas in 4th it gave me very little response and i smelled gas even driving in the car with the window cracked
Had to pull back over about 10 miles from home and gas it out tons of white gas rich smoke with leaking trails of gas smelling smoke at idle until i could coast it home
Seemed alot worse getting up in it in 2nd than it did the bottom ends of 3rd and 4th but could not get above 2700-2800 rpm without it getting choppy and feeling like it might choke out

Gonna look at it in the AM what could this be? Surely maf sensor will not cause that bad of an issue

I had something similar - 95 GT engine was too rough and jerky to drive. Turns out the distributor was simply worn out and the loose play was changing the timing. Installed new distro and now running the best in the 22 years I've had it! If I had looked closely, I would have seen metal shavings around the distributor - you might check for the same.
Hope that helps find the problem or eliminate a variable!

unplugged the maf and cut it off? You don't mean you physically cut the maf off of the car with wire cutter do you?

He unplugged the MAF turned the car off and fired it back up.

OP sounds like a spark issue.

It ended up being water that got sucked into the CAI
Need to invest into some fender well covers
