20210702_152858.jpgneed help does anyone happen to have a picture of the inside of the distributor shaft on a 302 mustang, mine is a 95. I need to know if that piece at the bottom is broken off and potentially in my engine block before I proceed

I need a better picture in the smaller hole
But if you see the rod in it HEX shape your good
It would be close to the top of that small hole

If you can't see the HEX shape aka the shaft for distributor
It could be broken

Or when you pulled the distributor out the shaft came with it and fell in the oil pan. Make sure that shaft is in the hole
Hex shape its 5 /16 size

Guve me a picture of the bottom end of distributor to
Nothing was broken from the distributor, but I can pull it back out real quick and take a picture, what I'm talking about is the angled section on the right hand side, zoom into the photo you should be able to see it, that's not a shadow

Ya I see it now it dose look broke on the corner
Should be round and flat on part of it

Metal parts should be in the pan that could have happened at any time are you the original owner

And as long as the distributor sits on it flush and has no movement side to side back and forth you should be ok to use

Sorry it took so long, I'm trying to respond as quickly as possible but I had to come in and brush my daughters hair. I'm trying to wire fog lights on my truck, but I need to figure out if I can turn the mustang over again or do I need to go into the engine and find a broken piece of metal

I am the second owner I got the car in 09 I think. I found an envelope behind the dash when (well they found) I had to take it to have the vacuum lines on the vent controls replaced, it had a recall sheet (something about the hood) from 96, I actually got in touch with the lady and found out that she had just sold it to a car dealership a few months earlier, also when I told her I had named the car Ruby she laughed and said that was what her and her son had named it

Ok it's got a little movement up and down , but not any wobble on the rotation I'm going to take some pictures with calipers

You should not have a lot of play up and down
If you have about, 0. 30 should be ok

.036, so should be good, now I bet my timing is gonna be wonky, it was slightly out of position when I put it back in yesterday, now I get to try again, never really did figure out how the thing I read about how to check the pickup coil was talking about. they were talking about checking resistance with a meter, I'm not getting anything

How many miles on the car
The chain may be stretched
The ford dealer recommends every 60 thousand
Replace chain and gears
That was way then
And also cam gears were plastic back then

Those are all very good things I should consider, I'm on my way to the parts store to see if I can get a tdc tool and some wiring for the trucks fog lights (think I might have figured out how to not burn down my truck, but according to a diagram of the distributor and firing order my distributor looks like it's twisted about 20 degrees from where it should be, but my rotors is on the plug going to 1 and my timing mark is on tdc or 10 past whichever the thing is actually marked for. But I gotta verify

So how would I determine if it was stretched, or should I just replace it and be done with that

Normally when I pick a car up I go through it pretty good
If it were me I would get the tune up kit and a chain and gear set part of checking it over
I have not heard it run
I dont know how it runs
Its really a judgment call on your part
Its a start and it will tell you if you got to go further steps
