Welp, after the diff blew around Xmas time last year, the new replacement has finally arrived.

Standard housing, standard pinion flange (good up until 800hp), machine-lightened & REM polished 4.10 FRPP gear set, Torsen T2R, ARP main cap studs, standard caps, solid shims, FRPP reinforced IRS diff cover. That should do it.

Some time this week I'll get to pull the old one down and find out exactly WTF happened to it. Should be interesting, and awesome. But not in a good way.

Unfortunately the towing service got cancelled, next date is Tuesday and then of course I can't get to the car Wednesday for the federal holiday. So I suppose next Thursday we FA&FO.

In prep for the disassembly phase, today I just drained the diff to get an idea of what happened inside. There was plenty of fluid drained, telling me it wasn't a leak somewhere that caused it to just burn up inside. It was bright red like it was brand new fluid, but there was of course some forbidden glitter in it too. So as of right now before I drop the housing down tomorrow and pop the cover (it's gonna be epic carnage inside for sure) I think either something loosened up inside or possibly it was just bad pinion angle and it burned up the pinion bearing. We'll see tomorrow!

Well, the verdict is in!

Took down the faulty diff today, popped the cover open to see....

Nothing! The gears and the diff are in like-new condition, so only the pinion bearing is smoked. It looked so good in there (aside from the grey matter inside the fluid) that the housing may even be re-usable. Amazing.

If there's any major damage at all, I have to assume that the pinion bearing cup or outer race is what took all the damage. Guess I'll put this old pumpkin in storage and save it for a rainy day.
