Tonight I finally got the hood looking decent and the number stencils came out really good. I also added his logo to the front of the hood like he wanted. Throw some clear on it and good to go.
It's starting to come together really nice.

That's actually a really decent logo for M2W. Very creative. You guys are an inspiration for sure. I told the wife I was thinking about painting the car myself and she just looked at me.....I said, let's start with the body work first and do a test spray on something and we'll go from there. I mean, it's just paint. Nothing that can't be fixed right?

Also, how much paint did you guy? I'm thinking a 1 gallon or 1.5 gallon kit should be enough for the whole car with multiple coats. I have a convertible, so there's even less to paint, at least that's how I'm seeing it in my mind.

I bought the Harbor Freight 2 gun pack on sale a long time ago, they were decent enough to get the job done that I was doing. I wasn't about to go spend $200-$500 for a paint gun that is going to spend 99% of it's life in a box in the garage.
I have found they work ok just need a lot more adjusting that a good gun. They will get the job done.

Thank you for the kind words and he is trying to “start a business” of his own and the logo was just part of that journey. Though he is not my kid by blood, i still treat him as if he was and try to support him and his ideas. I think he has learned a lot on this car and it is great to be able to pass down what little knowledge I have before I get old and forget everything. Lol

I used right at one gallon of paint to paint the car. I have the roof left however I am sure there is enough paint left to do it. I also will only end up using about 1 gallon of clear. A lot has to do with the color, a light color over dark car you will use more, dark over light you will use a little less. I say try and and if you have questions feel free to ask. When we get ready to paint the hood I might do a video of it to help out those that want to see how I do it, not that I’m a pro but at least to give you an idea.

Last night I cleared the hood and we put it back on the car. Considering how bad this hood was when we started and I was clear coating it last night in 90 plus degree heat, I don’t thing it came out too bad.

Last night i was finally able to get the side trim off the roof to finish fixing the area that had a dent. I wish somebody would have warned me there was hidden screws lol This will work out better being it needs the windshield replaced anyways. I will just leave them off and paint them separate.

shoot, i coulda told you about that! ive taken those pillars off so many times over the years

i always get excited seeing this thread updated btw
I am learning little by little lol. I watched a video and thought seems easy however they did show the little screws under the seal channel. After pulling and cussing forever I finally figured it out. Th good thing is I can also remove the windshield molding and not have a paint line.

It does look a lot better than when we picked it up at the sale yard. We may be going a little overboard on what we should be doing and spending for a daily however it is a good car and I think it warrants the time and money. It is also a great opportunity for the kid to learn and be able to appreciate his hard work.

Today was a milestone, we completed all the painting (except the trim pieces around the tail lights). Now time to start the fun task of sand and buff.

Has anybody ran these tires? My tire guy was having trouble getting me some TOYO’S for it due to supply issues so he sent one of these for us to see what we thought. They are 240 tread wear and look to be decent for wet pavement. We are going to mount this one up and see how figment is in the front.

Yesterday the kid was educated on how to wet sand and buff. I wanted to get the decklid completed before we put the wing on the back.

1. Black paint & gallon of reducer = $56

Total for all these supplies = $56. We are now $3073 into this project

IMG_0755.jpg

We then installed the rear wing and though this thing is huge, it really pulled the car together with it painted to match the hood.

While not my style, tons of respect and appreciation for both of you on doing this project... I'm sure he is learning things that will serve him through his life and making memories that will last long after you are gone! Keep up the good work!

About the wing....i like the wing, me myself loves a HUGE bat wing. One of them pikes peak hill climb racecar bat wings. And you are right about the wing collaborating with the hood. Its all coming together and looks faaaaantastic!

Thank you for the complement! I know it is not everyone's style for sure however it is his car, and he has a vision on what he wants so that's what we are going with. Making the memories and spending time in the garage with him is the biggest reward from all this.
