My odometer on my 97 has stopped working although the speedometer still works fine , any ideas what the problem might be ? What kind of access can I get behind there if I take the dash out ? Many thanks

Is the odometer still working?
Could be the VSS.
No need to remove the gauge cluster if it's the VSS. It's on the transmission

Defiantly would be the plastic gears in the cluster--can be obtained from American Muscle or MMR----CJ pony parts--Late Model Restoration just to name a few where you can obtain the plastic gears. Pretty straight forward job to replace by removing the cluster.

or the motor it the gears attach to. I had a couple of spares as I don't think they sell those anymore.

Oh my bad I read it wrong originally. Have you (or someone else swapped out your rear end gears at some point). A lot of people swap out the speedo gear in the cluster to compensate. However the new gear doesn't mesh right, this stripping the gear out.

Or, just the original gears dried up and broke.
