Well a while ago i purchased a PI intake not knowing it was a dorman and the differences between them. Well after having my car dynoed the car put down 272rwhp @6200RPM (mods are listed in my sig). I know people with similar set ups put down 290-300 so i went on a search to find where my missing horse power went and this is what i found.

As you can see here the dome on the bottom of the OEM is considerably larger as well as wider.

heres another shot showing the difference in dome size.

in this pic you can see how much larger the intake ports are on the upper end.

Replace the front IAC hose setup with staight heater hose, it cleans up the look a lot and doesn't affect it's use at all

Solid info. I haven't come across too many threads where people were happy with Dorman, this might explain why.

No lights or bad idling or anything?

Nothing, if anything going with straight hose provides more possible air, since the IAC is doing it's job it idles perfectly

I've had my car like this for almost a year

Here is mine, all I did was cover the 1/2" hose with black braided covering

To clean up the look. You get rid of that ugly black box that is just sitting there doing nothing.

I just got my car back, I had a PI intake put on recently and had this same dilema. I did a bit of research and the general consensus was that a ford intake was a better made product. I purchased a ford racing pi intake as opposed to purchasing one at the dealer for an inflated price.

Yep, I took the same set of pictures a couple years ago when I did a swap for a guy. What I basically figured out was the Dorman is an NPI mold that they just changed the port size on. Complete piece of crap.

FYI: There was a short period of time where I guess Dorman was out of intakes, and if you bought one, you'd get a Ford piece in a Dorman box, so there are a few out there that are identical to the FRPP replacement, but those are an exception, not the rule.
