The doorguards issue is one of question....I actually like them, they've been on there since the car was brand new, and I'm almost afraid to see what the car would look like without them.

If you like them, then just keep them on.
If you did want to take them off, you should be fine though. I would go ahead and buff the entire car with some nice polish though afterwords.
