Oil cooler kit

Once my engine (347 stroker) gets up to temp, the gauge is reading around 180*. It doesn’t seem to get higher, but is that an acceptable temperature or would a thermostatic oil cooler be a good idea?

Depends on your intent. Circuit racing, absolutely. Street, no. If it's the occasional racer, monitor it before spending the money.

Name brand synthetics can routinely get over 250 F with normal change intervals and it's no sweat. But if oil temps routinely get over 280 F, it's definitely time to change the setup.

Keep in mind that the 180° reading is engine coolant temp and may not be indicative of the oil temperature; however, as @cobrajeff96 stated, unless you're racing, you're probably fine without a cooler.

I guess I'm assuming he has an oil temp gauge setup? Otherwise 180 is on the cold side for most cars water temp lol

Yes, that's what I took away from it. I'm not even sure a mod motor could ever be so cold at 'operating temp' range. Besides, it's less efficient to run a motor that cold all the time. The hotter, the better... to a point.

I guess I assumed this was the standard engine temp guage not oil temp. @Daryl ?
