Hi all,

I'm new here and have a new to me 03 gt with about 115 k miles.

Have been working to fix little things here and there and have found some kind of oil leak going on.

Just a few drops on the floor and the bottom sway bar seems to have fresh oil on it all the time. I jacked it up today and found a pool of oil on a plug just to the left of the oil pan. I have some pictures that I will post.

Before I spend half my life searching for a leak that I can't seem to see where it's coming from. I thought I might post here if anybody has seen this as a commonality.

In advance.

One additional thing to note is these photos are after I wiped it up with a shop towel so you don't really see much of a leak but that's the area it is coming from.

If it’s all around the pulley I’d say it’s coming from the crank seal. That is the crank position sensor, the gasket could be broken too.

It doesn't seem to be around the pulley, just on\around that connector. When I took the connector off it looked like there was oil inside it. I'm sure it was just from the pooling of the oil.

Is there anything directly above the female side of that connector that could be leaking? Is there a gasket there?

Just to rule the crank seal out, is there a quick way to check or is it basically a "if you get that far you might as well replace it anyway" type of scenaio?

There really isn’t anything above the crank position sensor that could leak other than the sensor gasket itself.

As far as the crank seal goes, run the car more, park it and watch for where oil is coming from.

The front seal typically wears out and the surface the front seal...seals against, grooves out a little, which is the pulley hub. Not a terrible job replacing the front seal. You will need a dampener remover. Do not use a 3 jaw puller. The pulley hub will be grooved out some from the seal. Just take your best judgement about the groove depth and if you want to replace the pulley.

Yes I saw a YouTube video last night on replacing it. Seemed a bit overwhelming at the time when I watched it, but I'm also dealing with the broken hood stud, so everything is overwhelming at the moment :)

Would this be what you are referring to for a dampener remover? Are there any other special tools I should be on a look out for other than you basic ones?

There are threaded bolt holes on each spoke of the dampener. Use those threaded holes to attach the tool. You dont want to use a 3 jaw puller on the outer diameter as it will distort the dampener ring. Some of them 3 jaw pullers can bite on the crankshaft hub area between the spokes. My prefered method has always been with the tool linked above.

Thanks for this.

Question, does the kit you referenced have the bolts needed? I came across a video of someone doing the repair, and they have a kit that looks like the link and said they had to order special bolts as the ones in the kit were not long enough?
