I've used the chain tool before and prefer to remove the timing cover. Ford used to have a tool similar to the Anderson tool back in the day and I did my first PI cams that way but this was before we were swapping PI heads over.
It is nice to have the cover off and get to inspect the guides etc and see if anything needs to be replaced.
You spend a few extra dollars for gaskets and more time but you get to learn more about your car and when you see people posting stuff you''l know what they are talking about.
