I hope this is in the right place as it is not strictly Mustang. Does anyone know of a budget friendly source for paint? I have another car that suffered at the hands of a suicidal deer. I found some clean body panels but they are not the same color. It was not an expensive car so I am hesitant to spend $500 on a gallon of paint. I have had Revolt and TCP Global mentioned

the paint is just the beginning. By the time you get a big enough compressor, dryer/filter system, paint gun and get it all figured out it adds up really fast. I think I paid $300/gal but this was a few years back and all I learned is that I never want to paint a car again....

there is a reason why they charge so much and it is not just because materials cost a fair amount. The knowledge of just what air pressure to turn, how far to hold the gun, how fast to move it how much overlap and how many coats takes years to perfect. Now 2/3s of paint is about the prep and if you just have a few panels maybe you can save a few bucks and prep them and bring them in off the car to make it easier for them.

I have a guy at work that is going to spray it for me, he is our professional painter and will use our booth off hours. I provide the materials.
The panels were all quite good out of the salvage yard and I will be pulling them off for painting.
No way am I going to try and spray them myself. I know my limitations in skill and facilities. A bit of filler and block sanding, I can do that.

I don’t know of any places in Kansas, but I know there are places that will not only mix to factory code, but will use their computers and cameras to color match unknowns. For example: My car is 31yo. I would bring them my fuel door, and they would mix paint to that. Painted bumpers ended up matching the car perfect. Went to a show, and parked next to a trailer queen 94 Indy pace car cobra. Same paint code, same vehicle/vintage. My paint looked great, but clearly was a different color when parked next to a museum piece.

Same place would mix interior paint for me too since I have a rare color, and it needed a refresh. I removed a piece that was not exposed to UV, and they matched it to that.

Now then. They can suggest/recommend paints, but what I discovered is that if you go with the cheapest, after 3-5 years, the clear coat will start to fade and chip away. So I would let them know that you’re on a budget, but want something that will last.

Also, something to note: Duplicolor sometimes sells factory matching paint. The problem is, my husband tried to paint a fender, and it looked amazing! However, the rest of the car wasn’t as nice and shiny, so it had to be wet sanded to a duller finished.

If you know a place with a paint booth they should know more than us. I think there are only a couple of us that have painted our own cars and it wasn't because we were pro painters and had some down time rather we had too much down time and could not afford a pro.....
