I already did a search and found a old post on the rear bumper being painted.

But I was just wondering if you needed to sand the bumper down and put primar and everything or could you do what Soddyrebel did and just mask it all off and spray some coats of krylon fusion (satin black) on there?

Thanks,
Mike

Your talking about the bottom "blacked out" part right?

For painting that yourself you'll wanna

Mask off the rest
Scuff it up with a scotch pad
wipe it clean
then spray it

remember to cover the rest of your car from overspray, because overspray is the devil.

Ya, just the bottom section looks fine. the whole bumper, I wouldn't advise.

Mine is blacked out from the factory. i'd go with a satin finish.

Just make even overlaping strokes, warm dry place, low dust, and it will turn out fine.
When you scuff it, take extra care to sand the edges and clean them really good, if you don't prep it right, it will peel there.

Ok so any sand paper will work just as long as you get the clear coat of right?

No you'll want a Scotch pad.
It's a scuff pad, kinda like fine steel wool.
Sand paper you'll probably leave lines that will show through, unless you go really fine.

Scotch pad's work well and it goes quicker.

Also, you're not sanding off the clear coat, you're just ruffing up the surface.
This gives it a clean and "scuffed" area for the new paint to stick to.

looks pretty good. I don't get why some didn't come from the factory like this.

Mine is chipping away and I was going to just get it painted, although I may just try the Krylon Fusion stuff and see how it turns out.

I did mine awhile ago, I sanded down with different grits (went really fine) to below primer, then shot with Dupli-Color. You should also do a clear coat and shoot the clear over the new black paint and the stock white because that will prevent it from chipping off, then sand with a super fine grit when done w/ the clear
