Photo request: 275 vs 285 vs 315

I hate the look of 255's on my back end and want something more aggressive. Sizes I'm looking at are: 275/40/17 sumitomo, nittos) 285/40/17 (nittos) or possible a 315/35/17 (sumitomo, nitto). Trying to study up on these two manufactures, most people say they run very narrow which has me concerned with running a 275 or 285 and considering moving all the way up to a 315.

will a 315 tire hurt my performance at all? My car currently does not need anywhere near that tire size, I just want a fat ass more than anything. Once my top end is built sure I could benefit from a 315, even then I think it would still be overkill.

opinions? Or can people post pics of their 275/285/315 sumitomo & nittos

edit- I see Mickey Thompson makes a street radial in a 295/45/17 which is extremely appealing to me, larger tire but I've got the room and will allow me to keep my 255/50/17 for the fronts.

I don't remember the brand on the 275 but the 315 is nitto 555

I have 295 nittos on a 10" rim and im still not flush. Nittos do run narrow, but if its looks ur looking for, you can always use a spacer.

On my New Edge, I run 285/40 Nittos on 10.5" wheels and I sit flush.

Sumitumos are crap tires. Yes, both Sumitumo and Nitto run narrow.

Do ur 295 stay flush without a spacer? Would I need a 1/2" (15mm) or 3/8" (10mm) ?

They should be flush with a 3/8" spacer. I have a 3/4" spacer on the rear but the fenders have been pulled 1/2".

Sumi's are a cheap tire and I for one will never buy them again, they don't stick to the road at all and run very narrow

I'm close to pulling the trigger on 295/45/17 Mickey Thompson street radials, just trying to repair my exhaust first, otherwise I need to order a new exhaust which I'm trying to avoid!

Really had my eye on the MT street radial, 295/45/17 but it is too much tire and around $650usd shipped to Canada. Settled for a pair of NT555 285/40/17 for $396 shipped.

edit- discount tire called me, they cannot sell nitto tires into canada as per their dealer agreement. Went to Kal-Tire (one of Canada's largest tire dealers) 2 NT-555R's after mount/balance is $668... back to the drawing board!

Yea shipping sucks ass in Canada. Ur best bet is finding them at a local shop. I recently got 255/40/18 for $280 installed by calling around and its an uncommon size.

As for tires, my rears are 275.

It was pretty good when I was living in Winnipeg, which is a 50 minute drive north of the USA border. I would get all my truck and jeep parts shipped there for free and drive down and bring them back.

I just ordered a set of 285/40/17 Kumho's for $495 Canadian, to my door from 1010tires. $60 more than what I was going to pay for the Nitto's, I can live with that. I'll post pictures when they're on.

315 Sumi's ...I like the "crap" tires! LOL...they last a long time for me 35,000 miles...they stick ok the first couple years then do get hard & spin easy...lol, makes it more fun! They are very cheap to buy & therefore to replace if I get too enthusiastic using my new line lock!
