So I have a 95 Mustang GT with a 5.0L and 150,xxx miles. I have a 98 police interceptor motor with 80,xxx miles on it still runs and drives that was given to me for free. I got the engine, trans, wiring harness and ecu and was wondering would it be worth it to swap that motor in my 95. It has less miles, 4r75w trans and larger trans cooler. Would it also be better to build than my current 5.0?

Would it hook up to everything else?

I'm not really sure what you're asking. ^

You'd pretty much need a 4.6L mustang to use as a donor car as well because you'll need a ton of other things. The K member for one, the wiring harnesses, including the chassis harness since the P71 stuff isn't going to work, and has a completely different gauge cluster. You'll need the hydroboost brake stuff. All the AC stuff... Oh, and modifications to the fuel system too. Completely and totally not worth it... If budget is a constraint, stick with the 5.0 and build/mod it.

It would be a massive amount of work for a non-PI 4.6. If that's what you really want you'd be better off finding a Mustang that already has one since the P71 engine is identical to any other 2v 4.6 of similar vintage.

Well I got it for free from a friend of mine since the car was wrecked in the rear. I guess I could always trade it for a 5.0 block and a 4r70w trans

    97 police interceptor

I have a 97 PI motor and a 95 Mustang GT. Would this be an easy swap to do and worth it in my car. I have the wiring harness, ecu, trans and motor

Merged this with the thread you made two weeks ago asking the same question about the 97.

1998 marked the beginning of the second gen P71, but the changes between the previous year were largely cosmetic with only minor changes under the hood, which were also largely cosmetic (ie/ moving the coolant reservoir, changing the routing of the fuel lines, etc.) The engine itself was still the same.

Also it's worth mentioning that PI does not mean Police Interceptor. It means Performance Improved. (NPI means Non-Performance Improved.) Mustangs got the PI heads, cams and intake in 1999. The Panther platform did not receive them until 2001.

Their is a plentiful selection of 96-98 Gt's with a price range of $2000-$3000 around my area. Do yourself a favor, grab what you can for free, leave your 95 alone, and turn your free items into cash. Use cash to improve 95

Put the money and time into the 5.0. Non-PI 4.6's aren't worth squat, which is why I put an LS1 in my 96.
