Just wanting opinions here. I could save a good amount of money by getting polished Saleen wheels instead of chrome. Would I regret getting polished instead chrome? Just wanting some opinions because I havent really seen many polished wheels, and dont really know how the finishes compare in terms of looks. Some say that if you take care of polished wheels they look better than chrome :dontknow:
polished upkeep is generally a lot higher unless it's cleared over but i've never seen polished shine as much as chrome. downside to chrome is if you get a chip/scratch/pitting you're kinda SOL unless you refinish the wheel, with an aluminum wheel you can sand/polish it out.
I had polished wheels many years ago and swore I would never do it again. Now with all of the polishing attachments for a drill I would not be afraid to own a set. I have ruined some chrome wheels and prefer painted/powder coated over all for ease of use and blemish repair.
Yea thats kind of what Im thinking. I have a set of chrome wheels now and the chrome is starting to pit and it pisses me of
I had a set of Polished 03-04 Cobra wheels on mine when I bought it. They dont shine anywhere near like Chrome does and they were clearcoated so there was no polishing them to make them look better. But like you said you're having problems with pitting and a lot of the aftermarket replicas like to peel too. Kinda a toss up.
I absolutely LOVE my chrome Saleens. I had a set on my car for over a year, and then one of the wheels was bent, so I bought a whole new set (of Chrome Saleen Reps). I keep the insides and out clean, polished, and waxed and have had no problems with pitting/peeling. Where I purchased mine from does offer a one year warranty on the peeling/pitting and will replace them if they do. The main thing to do with them is to seal them once you get them with a good wheel sealant. It's all preference of what you want the wheels to look like, and the upkeep on them.
Also going to depend on where you live and how much you drive. If you live in a warm climate and this is a weekend car then you can't go wrong with chrome. For me living in the northeast with crappy roads etc and all the stuff they treat the roads with in the winter made chrome a tough task to keep up with.
I had polished wheels in the past and will never have any again. Chrome was the way to go for me. Wayyyy easier to keep up with here in Fl.
It's worse with polished wheels. We don't get as much snow in the Kansas City area as you but they think they have to use as much salt as you guys. Something else that will kill a polished wheel are cheap parts store brake pads. They put out a ton of brake dust.
Polished has a better luster to them and are a hint darker than chrome. LOTS of up keep though on non-coated polished. Polished wheels that are clear coated look horrible IMO. Show car - polished Daily - Chrome
