Hey guys, I was just wondering why lot of drivers have quick release steering, and daily drive it? I also wanted to know about the people who do have it, and do they feel safe with it? This Thread is just for curiosity, so I'm not judging anyone. So feel free comment on the is thread.

I have a friend that needs a seat belt extension and the steering wheel rubs his belly with the seat all the way back. His steering wheel is NOT removable.....still intact!

I feel like some of you are wasting money on these nonsense luxuries !!!

LOL, I'm just fuxing around. The race seats are a good reason to have a removable wheel.

But if one is fat, maybe they oughtta get in shape before racing.

If you race it's not a luxury. In my case it reduced the amount of time it took me to get out of the car in a crash. You need to practice that so you know how much time it takes you. Also might decide how many layers you need in your driver's suit to get clear. Although I never had a serious crash in the over 2 decades I raced I took my own survival seriously.

Jeff.. ouch..

It helps with climbing out of a fixed back race seat.

There is no racing organization that allows articulated drivers seat. Only track days allow that. The car in the photo is not a racecar, although it could do track days. Needs a full cage to race. In this car the removable steering wheel is a luxury.

Well, you’re not wrong but I don’t consider it a strict race car. It is not purpose built for any specific class but does get used for NASA HPDE progression and autocross. It does have a 6-point bar but I have no illusion of that being sufficient rollover protection. I have do plans for a full cage and moving to the appropriate TT class when the time comes.

I got neighbors here in the middle of town - not even suburbs - whose heaviest lift is taking their corgi to doggie day care and they drive big ol diesel f-two-fittys because big rigs are diesel and that means they're definitely equipped for a grocery run even if la croix 12-packs are buy-one-get-one at Safeway.

So you gotta have a gimmick steering wheel like racecar guys I suppose. Can't say it's my jam but people do what makes them happy.

My old steering wheel was in bad shape of 27 years of hand grim and sun abuse. Was getting to be annoying. I had a quick release steering wheel installed to fixed my issue. Feels good, small compared to the factory one. For me it was cheaper to go that route and I live in Brooklyn so it might be a deterrent to car thief. No one is stealing my car (not worth it) but you never know. I have yet to remove the steering wheel...maybe if I go to the bronx lol. No belly either.
