A shop did the same thing to me, said they were allready bent in because of me, either way we added some washers and it worked but still I was pissed, kept leaking.

Tatting is a perfect way to describe a exhaust leak.

rattle is more or less something loose. this is more like a hollow puffing tatting sound.
