is there a huge difference between 3:73 and 4:10. anyone had both? i want short gears. how bad is it on the highway? i'm usually a Go big or go home but if 4:10 is revving at like 6500RPM on the high way in 5th then hmm?? just put on some drag slicks so need to launch.
With 25.68" tall tires, a T5 trans in 5th gear, and 3.73's, 70 mph is 2300 RPM With the same setup and 4.10's, 70 mph is 2550 RPM. 80 mph is and 2650 and 2900 RPM, respectively. I doubt you'll ever see 6500 RPM in 5th gear lol, it would be about 2-3x highway speeds
I personally wouldn't pay or do the job for the minuscule difference. What gears do you have now? (was assuming you had one of the ratios)
ya there was some sarcasim in there lol. that isn't to bad actually. i'm alot lower than that right now. all in all that's some pretty good info. i'm thinking 4:10's. aint a daily so **** it. and who's to say i don't travle at 2-3 times faster than highway speeds?? lol.
I find 373s perfect for driving around and highway speed. Going 120 on the highway I'm not sure I'd want much of a lower gear personally.
What year car and what are your plans? if you planning NA or Nitrous, 4:10's for sure supercharged or turbo- 3:55 the downside to 4.10's is you'll be at the point or shifting into 5th at the lights in the bigend of a 1/4 mile. 1/8 mile you'll be going into or already been into 4th. Grantes thats my experience with a 97GT running 4.10's, exhaust, slicks and a 100shot of nitrous launching off the rev limiter with stock suspension
pm me your email address, i'll send an excel doc for calculating engine speeds/gear ratios/tire size/etc.....
hey actually i know a site that is pretty good for that. willtheyfit.com being one of them. but thank you very much.
oh ya nd my car is 95 gts. and plans for it is to remain a street car. no nos. keepin it n/a and hoping to see 290-300 rwhp eventually.
Gear yhe car according to your powerband. Stock headed intake car with 4.10s is a waste. A stout built hci that pulls to 6500 4.10s. Ect ect.
That car was sold over 10 years ago. But when i got rid of it, it rode as nice as the day i got it. It was a fun 8.2x 1/8 mile car.
You will be happy with 3.73s, and they will play nice with any future power modders such as nitrous or FI.
having trouble seeing how that would be a waste? quicker shifts will help most situations. my car pulls way to long in each gear. like sitting there thinking to myself "am i ever going to shift again?" as i watch the tach climb. i would think more to gear your car according to how you want to drive it, how often you want to shift and milage in mind? no?
ya going to stay away from nos and fi. i'll proabably get frowned upon for saying this but if i wanted forced induction i would buy a japanese car. i like my n/a v8's. just a matter if i want that extra 0.37 turns to the drive shaft or not lol.
I always thought that if I loved my N/A V8 I'd be ecstatic over a supercharged one! No? Stock SN95's were 2:73 ratio for the most part...I jumped to 3:55's & it made my car so much easier to drive in town & on the freeway I tack 2250RPM or so ...I drove it conservatively breaking the gears in & actually picked up 1MPG...LOL, but just cannot quit having fun now despite my best intentions! One of the top most favorite mods I have done!
