I have a stock '96 gt convertible, runs great but would like to have a little more low end get up and go , driven mostly around Wayne County not very much on freeways .question is has anyone swapped out the rear gears for a 456 or 411 ? And if so did you swap just ring and pinion or whole axle housing as a unit , but most importantly how's it pull ,pro's / con's what would you do different ?

Went from 3.08 gears to a 4.30 in my car. I regret absolutely 0. I also don't do a ton of driving on the highway so it works out great. I think 4.10 would probably be a good gear set on the 2v. Doesn't quite have the rpm like the 4v does.

As far as what to buy all you "need" is a set of gears and an install kit. Now the list of things you "can" do is probably much bigger at that point. Upgrading/replacing the lsd clutches would be a good thing to do. They're probably stock and not in ideal shape. You can look to use a stock replacement style or upgrade to the carbon fiber set.

I've never met a person who regrets their gear swap. Only regrets are not going with enough gear when they do it.

If your car is a stick, I'd say do 3.73 or 4.10
I used to run 4.30s in my Cobra, but went with a 3.55 after the turbo install. Kinda wish I did 3.73s

Yeah if you're auto, then do 4.10 or 4.30

Yeah it's a 5spd. At 45 it's basically normal in 5th gear. 45 is actually kind of an odd ball it's about 2600 or so I think in 4th or I can shift to 5th and drop it to 2k it just likes to lug a little there and I prefer to keep the rpm a little higher

if not much highway...4;10's. just the ring and pinion, new seal and pinion bearing, proper gear oil and ford motorcraft friction modifier.

Depends on how far you want to take the car. When I went turbo I geared back from thr 4.10s to 3.55s and then again back to 3.27s as power kept increasing
