The clutches in my 96 gt 4r70w are bad and I’m swapping it with a 4r70w from a 98 gt. I’ve seen around that I need to repin the harness but I’m kinda lost on how and what wires need to be swapped. I’m hoping someone has done the swap before and can walk me through on how to do it?

Yea...im not sure if anyone here has done that. Or maybe i should say, what you are asking doesnt sound familiar, but i dont know much about auto trans. Give this thread a few day to circulate here. The experienced will chime in eventually

Pull the valve body out of your new transmission and change all the solenoids to the 96 style. The solenoids and internal transmission harness are different in 98.

Swapping the solenoids is relatively easy, especially if the transmission is still out of the car.

If you plan to keep this car, I promise you will be better off swapping to the 96 solenoids. It will make any type of future repairs easier.

For instance, you swap these wires around and have an electrical fault afterward. Then you have to take it somewhere to have it fixed. They troubleshoot it as a 96, but the wires are all in the wrong locations. Now they tell you that you need a new harness. Now they’re selling you parts you don’t need, because they don’t know.

If you swap solenoids and keep it 96, then the car will be easier to work on in the future.

Good advice.
