Replacing injectors.

Today I finally decided to pull my injectors to see if I could clean them and test the spray pattern. They were not easy to get out, but I got them out, and when I did, one of the injector hats(?) fell apart and another one was cracked. 1000029318.jpg

And now I'm considered if refurbishing them is even worth it. I looked the part number up and it doesn't seem many people are thrilled about them. (Bosch 0280150943/FORD FOTE-D 5B)

I would prefer upgrading them but I don't really know what to look for.

I do have plans to change the cams and port the heads or even swap the heads for better airflow down the line so being prepared for that would be nice.

What fuel injectors do you guys suggest? And do I need to clean the holes where the injectors sit in as the injectors were rusting in the hole/seat by the looks of it. And how would I clean them without dropping all the gunk into the cillinders.

I wouldn't bother refurbishing them. The 3 older cars in my household have cheap "Ebay" injectors - actual manufacturer unknown - and they work properly. I can't think of anything they could be doing better if I had paid more.

For the love of all things Holy.. do not buy random off-brand injectors. You can install larger flow-rate injectors(tune adjustment) to prepare for more power output but use OEM, pretty certain Bosch made them for Ford.

Do not buy car parts off Fleabay or Chinazon. Just don't do it.

Yeah but the Bosch injectors that are in there, don't have a good rep. According to the part number they were oem.

Pintle cap and o-ring kits are readily available and inexpensive. Relatively easy to replace. Clean with carb, throttle body or brake cleaner. Check the flow pattern at that time.

if you are dead set on keeping those specific injectors I would send them off to test them/calibrate them.

To many chinesium copys when purchasing new. Source good old ones and have serviced. Or you could change out the injector pig tail harness to ev6 versions and source out a good set of ev6. Still good idea to get serviced

as he said the knock off can be hard to spot until you start having issues. Sending them off will ensure at least they are calibrated and they replace all the parts that wear out.

I would too if i were living in the USA. ;)

I live in Europe, but I have contacted a shop nearby that offers it. It's just difficult to justify refurbishing the injectors from 98 if it were to cost more than a new set.

Based on what? I would run a OEM set of Bosch 19# injectors over whatever chinesuem ones are being sold now, especially if you plan on tuning and need reliable/consistent injector data for the tune.

Short of sending them off for cleaning and flow testing. You can self-refurbiush them by buying new O-rings and pintle caps and filters, and clean them by purging through them with carb cleaner while activating with a 9V battery. Lots of videos on Youtube.

I was running my 37 year old original Bosch 19's on my '88 up until last fall when I had to upgrade to 47# injectors. Did a few cleanings along the way but never had any issues or any signs in the tuning that would suggest they were faulty.
