i first posted on this forum about 2 months ago when i bought a 1996 cobra convertible identical to the one i owned at the turn of the century -- it was simply awesome to get back in a mustang again -- one of my first projects was to put a new dash unit in -- which i finally accomplished -- about a week later, a young lady who apparently had other things on her mind -- plowed into me as i was getting ready to execute a u-turn and totaled the cobra. i simply couldn't walk away from having a cobra -- so i found a 2001 convertible and bought it -- and i am trying, yet again, to get the dash unit installed on this cobra-- using a metra 70-5701 harness -- bottom line is that the dash unit won't come on either in accessory or running -- fuses looked to be OK -- the red wire has 12+ V in accessory or running -- but the yellow wire (standard +12v hot all the time) has only 0.47v -- measured at the input to the aftermatket radio and also as the input from the OEM radio cables to the metra harness -- my conclusion from that is that he problem is outside the radio because the required voltage is not entering the new radio circuit. appreciate any thoughts/guidance on where to look to try and figure out what is pulling down the voltage -- it occurs to me that i have had both battery cables off and i need to go back and make sure i didn't muck something up in removing/reinstalling the cables.

many thanks -- larry

i plead newbie for the omission of pics -- hopefully all the attached will redeem me ....and if you look closely at the interior pics -- you will see the new after market dash unit installed and working -- at least the last time i turned it on -- it worked .... turns out i didn't check ALL the fuses -- i omitted the fuse in the constant 12v line -- it was the culprit --

thank you, badass98svt -- physically fine but emotionally a bit distraught for several days after -- i had not realized how much i missed driving a mustang -- it has been 23 years since i sold my 96 cobra and when i saw this 96 cobra, identical to the one i had -- i had to buy it -- bless my sweeties heart -- she said go for it -- had it for only 6 weeks then the accident -- i couldn't believe it -- but we move on -- i really like the 2001 -- got a great sound --hope i get to drive to the end of the tunnel in it .....

Damn . Sucks about the 96 cobra but the 2001 with parchment interior is beautiful

when you say you checked fuses, did you check the one that the manual said might be related or did you literally check every fuse? I know it sounds like a lot of work but it literally takes 2 mins to get on your back to pull/inspect each fuse where it will take you 5 mins just to find the right page in the manual and start reading. There are two fuses for the stereo and I bet you still have one blown, be sure to look under the hood if you do not find any blown under the dash. Check those and let me know which one was blown :)

many thanks for the replies -- i did love the 96 cobra but the 2001 is a great car -- has a better exhaust system than the 96 did -- sounds better -- still getting used to the tremec transmission -- i think the 01 shifts different from the 96
ttocs -- your point about just checking vs. finding the right page ... has merit -- but it takes this old man a lot longer than 2m to just get in a position where i can see where the fuse(s) are -- in any case, i overlooked the fuse in the constant 12v line -- saw it on a schematic and then ran it down in the fuse box -- it was the problem --
