Hey guys,
Just picked up a 97 mustang 122k miles on clock today
Just noticed after a 10 minutes of running, can see smoke coming from between the back of the engine and fire wall
Smells like burning oil
But can't really see where it could be coming from.
Just wondered if anyone else has experienced these issues??

Thanks
Chris

Yes
Time for some new gasket on the lower intake
And valve covers
Unless you can snug the bolts down on the valve covers to make it stop leaking

Npi engine were also bad about leaking oil from the head gaskets at the back of the engine. Pull the intake and take a look.

I didn't think the 4.6 was common on head gaskets, thought it was mainly the 3.8l

Isit a bad job to do?
I am a mechanic, but being the fact I'm from the UK, don't ever see cars with v6/v8s. So never done a head gasket on one before.

Cheers

It’s not a terrible job, in the grand scheme of things. There are a couple of difficult bolts to get to, but over all it’s not bad. It’s a weekend job for sure.
