While doing some reading after picking up a set of wheels locally, it seems that my '94 has wheel studs with different specs front/rear. Seems that the front studs have a slightly smaller diameter in the knurled part. Some reading suggests drilling out the front hub to accept the larger rear studs.

I've done this before on old Jeep junk back in the day. Not on a street car. Any real drawback doing that with this car? I can't see one... but thought I'd ask. The larger rear studs seem to be easier to find in the aftermarket than the fronts.... unless you're dropping prime dollar on ARP or Moroso parts.

No problem with it at all. To install longer studs up front, you'd have to drill them also.

Be careful, though. Any time you drill through metal, especially thick metal like a hub, never go straight to the final diameter. Always with WD-40 or some specialized cutting oil. And IMO, it's always best to stop one interval short of the final size and ream it out to the final diameter with a round file. Because if you F it up and punch it out even just slightly too big, it'll cause major problems down the road. Or just punt to a machine shop and you can't go wrong.

The knurl really is there to prevent the whole stud from spinning when you go to tighten a wheel. So long as the stud is straight (the knurl also aids in keeping it straight permanently I suppose), then there should be no issues at all. Just be careful when drilling. I think cobrajeff96 summed it up perfectly.

arp makes an extended stud that you can just press in. I can't remember the specifics but I know I used them
