Is he going to stick with the stock cam? It’s coming along nicely.
He will be staying with the stock cam of this engine we are freshing up. I guess you could say it is a cam upgrade. This engine is from a '96 and is roller cam. Going from the stock '88 flat tappet to roller.

We didnt plant to swap ecu. Do you think it needs to be? From my understanding with the original fuel injection based on map sensor readings, all that needs to changed over is the related drive gear on the distributor. But im all ears to suggestions.

The fire order is different on the 96. Even though the ecu uses batch fire, it’ll be confused because it’s expecting a cylinder to fire on one bank when it fires on another. At least that’s what I’ve seen doing some research. I’m helping a guy on another forum who swapped a 94 302 into a 91 and is having all kinds of running issues because of the firing order but he refuses to swap the ecu or cam.

Did the trucks and cars have the same firing order differences? I feel like I remember reading the truck kept the same firing order. I am not sure though.

Here are the firing orders from both books for a 1996 5.0 Vin "N" 302: 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8.

Firing order for 1989 ford truck 302 V8

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 look on intake manifold for numbers The spark plug firing order is 1- 5 - 4 - 2 - 6 - 3 - 7 - 8 The distributor rotor turns COUNTER CLOCKWISE

Couldn’t say. By cars I’m ASSuming you mean panthers, they kept the 154 firing order until 92 when the 4.6 was introduced (town car was 91). But the truck 302 kept the 154 firing order until 94. This is all from research so take it with a grain of salt. I’d still verify firing order just to be safe.

There is a lot of differing info out there but from research, 94-96 F series with the 302 moved to the 13726548 firing order. Older trucks had the 15426378 firing order. I would verify the firing order on the “new” engine just in case.

Hold on gentlemen.....this thread is about 351w engines. Im pretty sure the 351w firing order stayed the same throughout its history. I could be wrong! But pretty sure. Its the 302 that had different firing orders thanks to the use of a 351w camshaft better known as a 5.0L H.O.

Yall help me figure this out. I aint versed enough into the pushrod windors.

I use my phone to access the forum so it goes to the newest post I haven’t seen yet. It’s been a while since I’ve seen the op.

Still tho, would swaping the spark wires and injector harness around aid the camswap firing order differences of 302 to a 5.0l HO ? Seems simple to me
